About

Jade Rodgers (b. 1997, Clinton MD) raised in Stone Mountain, GA. She received her B.F.A in Photography at Pratt Institute in New York in May 2022.

Jade has always had a love for photography from a very young age. She always knew she wanted to create art, and tried many different mediums before taking a chance on herself to pursue photography. Throughout school she carried her first DSLR with her everyday, photographing her friends and classmates. Jade used her photography skills at that point to develop her high school yearbook. When her yearbook teacher saw how seriously Jade felt about photography she allowed Jade to cover many of the school events, from plays, to sports. This only pushed Jade further down her path to becoming a freelance photographer.

In 2015 she began her photographic career working as a freelance wedding photographer for her fathers business in the Washington D.C, Maryland, and Virginia area. His business Jbad highlighted video production as it’s main focus so Jade was often times the only photographer on location. This responsibility encouraged her to learn more about her camera, editing, and composition. At this point Jade was in school for Computer Science hoping to follow in the footsteps of her uncles in Tech, but in 2018 she decided to change her major and pursue her craft even further by attending Pratt Institute in New York.

In her time at the institute she learned that her work lies somewhere between art and activism. That she seeks to highlight the voices and creative ideals of communities of color. Through her personal work she was able to find her voice, and share her thoughts about the world from the lens of a Black woman in Photography.

Now, Jade works as a freelance photographer and photo editor, but is working towards her goal of becoming a full time photo editor. She specializes in portraiture, fine art, event, and product photography. With a special interest in film and cyanotype processes. Jade hopes to continue to learn and grow and is always ready to face a new challenge head on.
